Throughout the book we get snippets of his past, accounts of everything he had to go through before Crow and his mother find him and save him from the horrible life he was leaving.

Zavarelli (Boston Underworld #1 and books are (to me at least) two VERY different books and the reason you should never give up on an author after just one book. Definitely recommend.Crow and Reaper by A. In short: a darkly unsettling story with stark art to match.

If that means anything to you, you’ll get a kick out of it as well.

Personally, I also love the slanted references to one of my favorite MMORPGs with things like killing boars in your starter quest and questing through Darkmoon Valley. This is certainly a dark humor at times, and frequently is so funny because it’s in such stark contrast the recent horrors that preceded it. The hilarity is not to be discounted, though. What decides someone as a sinner? Do certain “sins” really deserve an eternity of damnation? Is there ever a time when murder is ok? Do good intentions count for anything? There’s a lot to unpack in this story, and if you’re willing to, you could get some solid conversations with others from it. Our characters are convoluted and morality is a constant question. And you know what? A story about the grim reaper and killing sinners really should be a bit unsettling. Beyond that, it’s just raw and gritty and scary in that unsettling way. Plus when we get a surprise pop of brights or pastels, it’s a dramatic punch in the face that lets you know something is seriously different. It fits the story so well, and you might be surprised by how much drama the scheme adds to it. It’s almost entirely in black, gray, and red, and it’s stunning. Things get hairy quick, though, when a rogue detective happens to find her immediately after she slices up her first kill. But she’s got a quota to fill - one sinner killed per day. I stumbled upon this comic recently and I am so glad I did! ‘Scarlet’ is the worst kind of sinner, and delays her eternity of damnation by becoming a grim reaper. Such is the career path of a young woman named Scarlet, who dies and is delivered down to the fiery underworld only to find herself in an entry level position as…The Grim Reaper! If you’re one of the latter, you don’t just get sent to Hell, you get sent to Hell and get assigned a job collecting the souls of some of the worst people on Earth. On earth there are bad people, and then there are REALLY BAD people.
